So, what’s a chakra? And why is it important?
Chakra is the name of the energy force that gives life to living beings.
Are you familiar with the word “Chakras?” Chakras are the energy system of our body. The word “Chakra” comes from the Sanskrit word for “wheel” or “disk” and your spiritual body houses seven of these spinning energetic disks (we are not just flesh, blood and bones, you know). The chakras, represented by 7 colors, are correlated with different parts of your body and various organs. When a chakra is unbalanced, it shows up in your life as an emotional (mind), physical (body) or spiritual issue.
What is the Root Chakra?
The Root Chakra, represented by the color red, is located at the base of your spine and helps us stay firmly rooted, feel safe and well-connected. It’s a good chakra to start with as it’s a foundation upon which we can build. Think of it as similar to the healthy root system of a plant or tree and how they need strong roots necessary for survival. An imbalance may show up as anxiety, out of control emotions, or lethargy. During winter, when we are less inclined to be walking barefoot in the grass and connecting directly to the Earth’s electromagnetic current, it is important for us to keep our “roots healthy” and our connections to the Earth strong. One way we can maintain a healthy root chakra is through movement: exercise, yoga, dancing, walking, etc.
